Follow-up on Social Networking post
Some interesting things have happened since I wrote a post titled “the end of social networking“. I mentioned OpenBC which changed its name to Pink Ming Dinq Zinc Zinq which made a lot of People search for blogs about OpenBC which means I received a reasonable ammount of traffic during the weekend.
Then I received a seemingly harmless message from a good friend asking me to sign-up for the Cross Media Conference Network. I’m not in The Netherlands during the conference but I figured it would be polite to at least endorse it. Turned out that the Cross Media Network is a Social Network branded under the Cross Media week umbrella. So now I have received several invitations to join other peoples network at the Cross Media website.
Then a journalist at Marketingfacts.nl wrote an article titled Voorzitter IPAN voorspelt einde Hyves?. The ‘?’ is important because in fact I didn’t actually say that Hyves is going to disappear. I just said that the thrill of social networking isn’t enough to sustain these services. New and useful features will have to be invented to keep members using them.
Hyves agrees, obviously, because they launched a new music service on Hyves just today. A good example of a service that makes it more interesting to use Hyves.
Even if you have enough friends to last you a lifetime.
