Loic Lemeur reacts to Techcrunch critical post: “Asshole”
You have to see it to believe it. Follow the link and read the critical but fair post from Techcrunch. Then scroll down to Loic Lemeurs comment and my comment beneath it…
TechCrunch UK » Blog Archive » Le Web3 the good, bad and ugly.
Now Techrunch has posted a reaction to Loic’s comment too. This is starting to get interesting! I see that Jeff Clavier is reading all of this too (I can tell because his photo shows up in the MyBlobLog Widget) so I’m sure that both Jeff and Loic will answer shortly too.
Sometimes silence is gold.
Not today, not with blogging…
UPDATE: the comment is indeed from Loic Lemeur as Sam Sethi confirmes in a comment on his own blog post.
UPDATE 2: and now Sam Sethi is fired by Michael Arrington for “unethical behaviour”! Wow!!! This is more exciting than TV!
The actual reason for the firing of Sam is not that he wrote something negative about the conference but the fact that he posted a story about Loic’s remark and added that Techrunch will host its own conferences in the future. I can understand that that is less than elegant but I wouldn’t say it is enough to fire someone. And it most people won’t hear about that and just assume it is because Sam and Loic got into a fight and Loic called Michael and then Michael fired Sam. I think it might be a good idea for Michael to put a post up at Techcrunch.co.uk (there is a post on Crunchnotes) explaining the whole thing.
UPDATE 3: I’m hosting a poll here with the final question: did you like Le Web 3?
UPDATE 4: Mike Butcher, the other editor of Techcrunch.co.uk, writes and open letter to Mike Arrington with his regisnation. He quotes my blogpost. Am I famous now?
UPDATE 5: after almost a week Loic Lemeur finally reacts on his blog. I also found this post from Ouriel (Techcrunch France) giving us a list of people who liked the conference. In fact, if you look at the list closely and actually read each one you will find that a bunch of them are from french people, speakers or people close to the organisation. One of the points being made in the other more negative posts is that the French politicians were of no interest at all for people outside of France. And even the positive posts are full of partly hidden criticism.
And this brings me to the end of the whole LeWeb3 discussion. I’m getting tired of the whole thing. Next year we will see how many people return. I personally had a GREAT time at Le Web 3 even though I didn’t like some parts of the conference and do think that it would have been nice, and smart, if Loic would have admitted to that earlier. Frankly; saying ‘Asshole’ to someone who expresses a negative opinion is like saying ‘Asshole’ to everyone with any critisism. I think it is better to promote critisism and learn from it.
But I’m not Loic…

Did anyone check if it is really a comment from Loic?

I would assume that this comment does not come from Loic until proven otherwhise.

I agree that it seems unlikely. On the other hand, Techcrunch can check thee IP address of people posting it AND both Loic and Jeff Clavier know about those posts. So if Loic didn’t post that comment he could have commented about it by now. We will see…

Seems strange as Techcrunch post is rather balanced compared to the comments of the blogosphere.
If it is really a comment from Loic, he is really upset and will likely leave the online world to set up a cheese factory in France’s countryside!

Loic reacted on Techcrunch initial post, confirming the comment comes from him :
“# Loic

This comment is true and I apologize for it. I will post more on my blog later, take the insult as an exhausted organizer after a few crazy weeks. I was only referring to your post in the context of Techcrunch helping us since day one on this event, not to your opinion. Basically I would have not reacted if it would have been on your personal blog, I felt really weird to see it on an official Techcrunch blog. I should not have commented that.
This being said I note that you do not consider email as private communication which I find surprising.”
Woo, where is the transparency is usually evangelized?
